I feel lucky to be living through the rapid, almost wild rise of LLMs. Knowing exactly how to do something matters less than it used to. Give an LLM the right tools and it can handle a lot of tasks for us. It used to be that if you didn't know how to do something, you couldn't do it. Now AI can help even with things we already know how to do.

Today someone sent me a database file called atanift.db.gz. I couldn't open it because I didn't know what the .gz extension meant. I could have asked ChatGPT how to extract a .db.gz file. Instead, I built a command-line tool that suggests the right shell command for whatever I'm trying to do.

I describe the task, and it gives me the exact command to run. I didn't want a tool that does the work but leaves me with no idea what the command means. So it also breaks the command into parts and explains what each option and argument does.

That way I get the task done and learn how it works. That's what I was going for.
